Durango
Colorado is a true western town
with all the conveniences and
amenities of a small city, but
with the feel and comfort of
a small town. In our eyes, Durango
is a fishing town, but it just
so happens to have a whole lot
more to offer. Be it a train
ride on the historic Durango-Silverton
Narrow Gage, snowboarding and
skiing at Durango Mountain Resort
(Purgatory) or a visit to Mesa
Verde, a visit to the Southwest
will quench your vacation thirst.
There are a lot of activities
in and around Durango besides
the fly fishing. Here is a small
sample of what the Four Corners
region has to offer.
Spring,
Summer and Fall:
Fly Fishing on the Animas, mountain streams and other fisheries with Animas
Valley Anglers. A trip to Mesa Verde for a wonderful archeological experience,
glider rides, hiking, camping, rock climbing, rafting, kayaking and mountain
biking. Birding, alpine wild flower and wildlife viewing. Area guest ranches
offer family vacations and horse back riding. Outfitters offer pack trips for
hunting and exploring in the San Juan National Forest and Weminue Wilderness
Area. Ride the historic Silverton-Durango railroad. Winter: Fly
Fishing on the Animas and San
Juan with Animas Valley Anglers.
Rip up the powder while skiing
or snowboarding at Durango Mountain
Resort, snowshoeing, snowmobiling,
cross country skiing, enjoy a
sleigh ride, play hockey or ice
skate, even ride the Durango-Silverton
Train in the winter. Year-round: There
are endless photography opportunities
in the region for amateurs and
pros alike. Diverse lodging options
at B&Bs, historical hotels,
budget motels or even rent a
cabin. Visit historic downtown
for shopping, galleries, as well
as fine dinning at nice restaurants
and night life. Stumble out of
a brewery tour at one of the
four breweries in Durango. Visit
Fort Lewis College; offers music
and shows at the concert hall
or spend some time at the Southwest
Center's museum and library were

the Southwest's vast history
and past cultures. There is a
lot to do in Durango, come for
a visit.
Durango
- Location, location,
location
Animas
Valley Anglers is based out
of Durango Colorado and
thanks to its central we
are in easy striking distance
to all our
fisheries. The Animas
runs right through
town and fishes well year-round.
Our other fishing locations
in the region are all
about an hours
drive from Durango. Pagosa
Springs is east, Navajo
Dam (San Juan
River) is a quick 45 minutes
drive south, Dolores and
Root Pond (Private Trophy
Trout Lake)
are west and Silverton and
the small mountain creeks
near Durango
are 15 to 60 minutes away
to the north. Rio Grande
trips base
out of Creede Colorado to
our north east for a
couple weeks
in June for the Salmon fly
hatch, PMDs, caddis and
drakes. We'll
still offer trips in the
Durango area even when
some of the guides
are in Creede. When you book
a trip with Animas Valley
Anglers make sure to
ask us for our recommendations
on the best restaurants and
lodging for your Colorado
vacation. |
