dolores river fly fishing

The Experience
Fly Fishing the Dolores, in a boat, is pretty sweet. You can cover a lot of great water with ease. This amazing canyon offers endless banks to drift a fly or rip a streamer. We float the upper section covering DOW and FS waters.

The fishing
Streamers and big dries are the ticket on the Dolores. Fish are fairly opportunistic during the float season. Fish range from 10 to 15 inches with large 20+ inch thugs that can rip the rod out of your hand.

The day
We will meet clients in Durango, Mancos, Cortez or Dolores and then head to the river. We put the boat in, run a quick scooter or mountain bike shuttle then we fish hard all day.

The details and dates
The window to float the "D" is typically very small. Hitting the float window is basically luck. First off there needs to be a spill from McPhee Reservoir, second you need the flows to be just right. The time frame occurs some time between April and early July. Just, book a trip and if looks like the flows are right, we just might recommend it.
