Animas River Headwaters
This section is the true headwaters of our regions largest drainage. The river starts as a small creek above Silverton Colorado, some 40 miles north of Durango. This is high altitude environment with signs of the rich mining history at every turn. Aspens and pines line the hillsides and the streams run gin clear with stunning brookies, bows and native cutthroats. Very special fish in a stunning environment. Another unique and exciting aspect to our guided adventures here are the side trips to old historic towns, settlements and mines. Step back in time for a true old west adventure. Our guided trips north of Durango near Silverton Colorado are, in essence, a combination of guided fly fishing with a scenic driving (jeep) tour. The season is spring through late October.
